
Malaysian tubist Shun Zhong Tan is the principal tuba of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra.Born in Klang, Selangor, Shun Zhong completed his Bachelor of Music (Honours) at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Brett Stemple and received extensive mentorship from notable trombonists including Sam Armstrong, Allen Meek, Marques Young and Fernando Borja.During his years in Singapore, he honed his skills in tuba performance through intense orchestral brass studies. In 2022, he was awarded a fellowship to attend the American Brass Quintet Seminar with his quintet at the Aspen Music Festival and School. Shun Zhong serves as the tuba and euphonium instructor at UCSI University. An avid educator, he is frequently engaged as a tuba and euphonium tutor in local educational initiatives where he has the opportunity to mentor and inspire young musicians. Through teaching, performance, and collaboration, he aims to inspire the next generation of artists and enrich the cultural landscape of his home country.
