Clayton Maddox, a South Bay, Florida native, is an active soloist, chamber artist, conductor, and educator. He currently holds the position of Assistant Professor of Tuba and Euphonium and Assistant Director of Bands at the University of South Alabama.
As an in-demand soloist, Clayton has performed solo recitals on both national and international stages. Clayton has competed in several international competitions such as the Leonard Falcone International Solo Artist Competition and the International Tuba Association’s Solo Artist and Chamber Competitions. He has performed with several professional orchestras such as the Mobile Symphony Orchestra, Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra, Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, and Orquesta de Sinfónica in Monterrey, Mexico As a founding member of the Boreas Quartet, Clayton is featured on the group's acclaimed debut album, "The Serpent's Kiss," earning the International Tuba and Euphonium Association’s Roger Bobo Award for Excellence in Recording. Additionally, Clayton serves as the music director for the Backburner Tuba and Euphonium Collective, debuting their first album "Ignition" in 2023. He performs and tours regularly as the tubist with the Alias Brass Company, who has performed in numerous states and international venues, with their debut album, "Prism," garnering Grammy consideration in 2023.
He holds degrees from the University of Alabama, the University of Memphis, and Louisiana State University. His primary teachers have included Demondrae Thurman, Paul Weikle, James Jenkins, and Joseph Skillen.
