
Dr. Christopher Lair currently teaches Tuba and Euphonium at The Virginia State University. While maintaining a busy schedule as a performer and music educator, his career has included positions with orchestras, military bands, universities, and high schools. Along the way, Dr. Lair has developed an international reputation, having toured Europe, the United Kingdom, Central/South America, and appeared at numerous conferences, high schools, and universities across the United States. His students have appeared in Carnegie Recital Hall, The Lincoln Center Plaza, won various orchestral positions in both the United States and Canada, positions in US military bands, teach at numerous universities and high schools, have been finalists in international solo competitions, and appeared on NPR’s radio show “From the Top”. Dr. Lair completed his Doctor of Music (DM) at The Florida State University, his MM and BM at The University of Kansas, and studied music education at Southeast Missouri State University. He studied performance with Scott Watson, Max Bonecutter, Paul Ebbers, and R. Winston Morris. He studied music education and conducting with Dr. Robert Gifford, Dr. John Lynch, and Tom Stidham. Dr. Lair owns and operates The Tuba Lair, a leading resource for band instrument repair and refurbished instruments in central Virginia.

The EBC836 is a 6/4 size tuba inspired by the legendary York orchestral CC tuba.
